Jon Meek - Banjo, Dobro,Vocals
Born in the great bluegrass state of Delaware, Jon began his
musical
journey in 4th grade as a fledgling trombonist. After several
years of teasing, he finally relinquished the ‘bone and began his study
of the guitar. During high school, Jon met Mark Unruh, a music
teacher extraordinaire, who turned him onto bluegrass, the banjo, and
various other acoustic instruments. After studying banjo with the
venerable Tony Trischka in New Jersey, Jon traveled northward to
Waterville, Maine to attend Colby College as a music major.
During his four-year stint with higher education, he studied music
theory and composition while performing in an acoustic duet with fellow
multi-instrumentalist Dave Hauser. Somewhere along the line, Jon
learned to play the piano and violin, and spent a semester abroad
living in Cork, Ireland, studying traditional Irish music, beer and
culture. He got his start as a music teacher at the Alfond Youth
Center in Waterville, where he gave guitar lessons to under-privileged
youths.
Upon graduation, Jon moved westward to
Montana, where he spent his first year as a baker for On The
Rise. After becoming disenchanted with the nocturnal baker’s
schedule, Jon became a music teacher at the Music Arts Center in
Bozeman, where he teaches guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, and
violin. After meeting the various members of the Bridger Creek
Boys at
bluegrass jams, he decided to join forces and was soon appointed the
acting Music Director. Jon can be reached at the Music Arts Center at
